About KNASTO®

Background

There are various methods for measuring individual or group knowledge assessment. Project Management Professional Learning (PMPL) has developed a Knowledge Assessment Tool (KNASTO®). By objectively assessing specific areas of individual strengths and weaknesses, KNASTO® is designed to indicate the extent of project management knowledge attained by individuals and provide a valuable input to improving that knowledge. Targeted assessment of specific project management learning needs contributes significantly to ensuring that the financial and personal investments made in development activities are optimised.

What is KNASTO®?

The application assesses the knowledge of project staff across 25 areas (which are grouped into 5 clusters). Knowledge is assessed within KNASTO® by the use of multiple choice questions where the possible answers for each question are structured as follows:

  • Only one from the four answers is incorrect - corresponding to a knowledge level of 'novice'
  • Basic or partial response - corresponds to 'improver' level
  • A good response - corresponds to 'proficient' level
  • Advanced response - corresponds to 'expert' level
  • A don't know option is available - mapped to novice knowledge level

All answers are traceable to the Bodies of Knowledge for the major project management professional institutes and associations and/or to relevant, contemporary standards and guidance documentation. The on-line assessment can be completed in short multiple bursts or in one go. Typical total completion times are between 60 and 90 minutes.

The output from KNASTO® is designed so that individuals and organisations can work with the PMPL consultants to identify where training is required and the most suitable training and development route to address the specific gaps between current and desired levels of project management knolwedge.
