Project Management Training Case Studies

Jarvis Rail

Jarvis Rail is a people led organisation dedicated to the delivery and timely hand over of infrastructure projects in and around the railway industry. The scope of business is wide and varied, and is backed by some of the most experienced transport professionals in the world today. Their professionalism and commitment means that Jarvis Rail remains at the cutting edge across a range of disciplines when it comes to developing innovative solutions to new challenges within the rail environment. Professional project management is a critical element of this first class service from Jarvis Rail.

To support the development of excellence in project management, Jarvis Rail has significantly invested in professional training for its project management teams. Delivered by PMProfessional Learning, Jarvis Rail has completed several project management training programmes, based on Network Rail's Project Control Cycle (PCC) and Guide to Rail Investment Projects (GRIP). The training culminates in the completion of the Association for Project Management Professional (APMP) qualification. This gives participants a qualification in project management recognised across the industry by clients such as Network Rail, TfL, Metronet Rail and Tube Lines. “We embarked on this training to get a better understanding of Network Rail's changing approach to project management and because development of our project management skills is a Critical Success Factor to the delivery of our strategy” said Lee Apsley, Strategic Development Manager for Jarvis Rail. “We selected PMProfessional Learning because of their understanding of the rail industry, their close links with Network Rail's project management development programme and their APMP training delivery structure”.

A common approach to project management

Paul Naybour, Director of Rail for PMProfessional Learning, explains “Network Rail has been very supportive of Jarvis Rail's commitment to project management training and have released their in-house APMP course material for use within Jarvis Rail, this gives significant benefits because both the client and supplier have a common approach to project management”.

Feedback from the programme has been excellent. One senior manager commented “This is the best course I have done from both a personal point of view and a company point of view. The content of the course was excellent and both trainers were knowledgeable”. Other comments made by Jarvis delegates include “The course was directly applicable to my work with Network Rail” and “I found the course hugely beneficial”.
